High Availability, Flexible Scalability And Extensive Capacity For Automation
Kirchheim, September 19, 2024 – The German IT security specialist genua sets standards: Its virtualized firewall genugate Virtual has received approval for the processing of information with German classification level “RESTRICTED" by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). This makes genugate Virtual the only virtualized firewall in Germany that satisfies this high security standard.
Dr. Günther Welsch, Department Head V of the BSI, presented the approval for genugate Virtual to Matthias Ochs, Managing Director of genua, at the genua headquarters in Kirchheim yesterday. "genugate Virtual satisfies the high security requirements that our organization places on products used for the processing of data in accordance with German classification level 'RESTRICTED'", said Welsch. "We are, therefore, pleased to grant genugate Virtual approval for use in virtualized environments as the first virtualized firewall."
"The German classification level "RESTRICTED" for genugate Virtual is a milestone for our virtualized firewall solution. It shows: genua can also develop virtualized products on the security level that is necessary for an approval," said Matthias Ochs. "Official public bodies and companies with access to classified information can thereby benefit from the flexibility and efficiency of modern, easily scalable IT solutions and, at the same time, be certain that their sensitive data is optimally protected."
Maximum Protection Through Full Traffic Inspection
genugate Virtual combines the high security standards of the state-of-the-art technology of the proven firewall appliance genugate with the advantages of modern, virtualized IT infrastructures. It thereby addresses the expanded requirements imposed by both customers as well as by the BSI on modern IT security technologies.
As an application level gateway (ALG), genugate Virtual enables an in-depth content analysis of all data traffic. At the same time, it places
special emphasis on the application layer (layer 7).
Potential threats can thereby be identified and averted early on. Through this comprehensive and complete traffic control, genugate Virtual offers a security level that is significantly higher than so-called next generation firewalls, which typically check the packet content only randomly.
Secure Use in Cloud And Virtualization Environments
genugate Virtual provides extensive protection for various applications, such as secure access to cloud services, the securing of data transfers and the prevention of unauthorized access. Web applications are reliably protected against attacks through the integrated web application firewall (WAF).
Moreover, they offer reliable protection for specialist applications as well as East-West and North-South transitions in the cloud – i.e., network interfaces within a datacenter or between a datacenter and an external location, respectively. At the same time, it enables the secure communication between networks through the use of virtual application level gateways. Through established automation interfaces, genugate Virtual can be used flexibly in cloud and virtualization environments and enables easy deployment.
The main features of genugate Virtual include:
-
Highest security standards: genugate Virtual satisfies strict security requirements and is the first virtualized firewall to receive approval for German classification level "RESTRICTED" by the BSI.
-
Comprehensive protection: Complete content analysis of all data traffic by the application level gateway (ALG).
-
Established automation interfaces: Optimized for operation in virtualized and cloud environments.
-
Simple commissioning and easy to automate: Simple deployment and automation of configuration changes.
-
High availability and scalability: Reliability and dynamic scalability for growing IT infrastructures.
